The Megan McNeil Gene Discovery Project
The James Fund is very proud to announce the Megan McNeil Gene Discovery Project.
Megan McNeil knew what it was like to be a kid fighting cancer. She inspired millions with her compelling song, The Will to Survive, which became the anthem for childhood cancer. Megan chose to use her song to support The James Fund.
Megan inspired millions but she lost her brave and public battle with childhood cancer at the age of 20. She touched the lives of many and she will be very, very missed.
But she said “We must keep on keepin’ on”.
So that’s what we will do.
In 2005, James Fund researchers discovered the stem cell for neuroblastoma. In 2009, James Fund donors paid to sequence the DNA of the stem cell.
Now, our goal is to raise $100,000 to identify drugs that are effective in treating neuroblastoma stem cells, with the intention of bringing those treatments to clinical trials. This work is some of the most exciting science on the planet, and will take place at the world-renowned BC Genome Sciences Centre in Megan’s hometown, Vancouver.
We have named the project the “Megan McNeil Gene Discovery Project”, and we hope that you will join us in honouring Megan’s by donating to this project.
Megs, this one’s for you!
With love from your friends at The James Fund.
