The Will to Survive
Megan McNeil was an extraordinary teenager who wrote a beautiful song called The Will to Survive. Garth Richardson is the legendary producer of such groups as Nickelback, Hedley, Rage Against the Machine and the recent mega version of K’naan’s “Waivin’ Flag” by Young Artists for Haiti.
When Garth heard Megan’s song, he knew he had to produce it. It was honest, real, and it impacted him greatly.
The Will to Survive is for sale on iTunes and Amazon.
Megan wrote the song as a tribute to kids battling cancer, many of whom she had met in the cancer wards and chemo lounges where she, herself, had received treatment for Adrenalcortical Carcinoma, an aggressive cancer.
There are more than 100,000 kids across North America battling cancer right now, and they need all the love and support they can get. Research into childhood cancers is greatly underfunded. And sadly, research into adult cancers does very little to help kids. Conversely, research into childhood cancers helps everyone.
The proceeds of the song help childhood cancer causes, a portion of which will go to The James Fund.
We’re deeply honoured that Megan chose The James Fund as a recipient of the profits from her song. She told us that she chose The James Fund because she wanted to help the kids who needed it most, and those kids are the ones fighting neuroblastoma, one of the deadliest childhood cancers.
She also believed The James Fund may unlock the key to her type of cancer, one of the rarest cancers there is.
Finally, Megan also lost a number of close friends to neuroblastoma, and wanted to work for a day when no child dies from the disease.
We hope you like the song as much as we do. If you’d like to help us spread our message of hope, please buy The Will to Survive from iTunes or Amazon and suggest it to your friends and people you love. And when you hear it on the radio or your MP3 player, spare a thought for the more than 100,000 kids battling cancer across North America. Sing along if you want:
Here’s to the fight.
Here’s to the fighters.
Here’s to the brave that take this on.
Thanks Megan. Here’s to you, too.
