Support

Every fall, we host the James Fund Neuroblastoma Family Retreat.  This weekend getaway is held at a wilderness camp in the Muskoka region of Ontario and is a time of fun and connectivity for families affected by the disease. The weekend includes a full program of crafts, games and sports for the kids; family activities; and information sessions for the adults.  Food and accommodation are provided, and all our needs are taken care of by our group of incredible volunteers.  The Retreat is funded by the Anden James Fund Golf Classic event, held annually in Peterborough, Ontario, and hosted by Canadian Star Michael Burgess.  (Next year’s golf tournament is June 4, 2012).

We provide support from other neuroblastoma families who want to help by telephone, email, or perhaps meeting in person.

We have been told over and over again, that Syd Birrell’s book, “Ya Can’t Let Cancer Ruin Your Day”, is a useful tool.  Syd’s account of his family’s neuroblastoma journey is a Canadian best-seller which lets you inside a family fighting to stay together and describes the chaos of the ride.  The book is part of the curriculum of several nursing programs, and Syd speaks regularly at many schools.  Many families have found comfort in knowing they are not alone, that people can actually come out the other side of the nightmare, and that they can show their friends and colleagues a glimpse of their lives.

The James Fund also distributes small amounts of funds to help neuroblastoma families in financial crisis.
