Walk/Run for The James Fund

6th annual Walk/Run for The James Fund
Sunday, October 30, 2011

Thank you to the paticipants, sponsors and organizing committee who made this event possible.  Funds are still coming in, but to date we have raised about $80,000.

THIS IS NOW AN INTERNATIONAL EVENT!
Walk/Run for The James Fund was inspired by a kindergarten teacher, to mark James’ birthday.  This event is now in its 6th year, has raised over $200,000 for neuroblastoma research and has funded cutting edge research projects.  This year, you can register online and participate anywhere in the world!

THE CAUSE
This year’s event was dedicated to Vancouver’s Megan McNeil.  Megan inspired millions with her compelling song, The Will to Survive, which became the anthem for childhood cancer.  http://www.willtosurvive.org/.

Megan said “We must keep on keepin’ on”.

So that’s what we will do.

In 2005, James Fund researchers discovered the stem cell for neuroblastoma.  In 2009, James Fund donors paid to sequence the DNA of the stem cell.

Now, our goal is to raise $100,000 to identify drugs that are effective in treating neuroblastoma stem cells, with the intention of bringing those treatments to clinical trials.  This work is some of the most exciting science on the planet, and will take place at the world-renowned BC Genome Sciences Centre in Megan’s hometown, Vancouver.

We have named the project the “Megan McNeil Gene Discovery Project”, and we hope that you will join us in honouring Megan’s work for our cause.

Megs, this one’s for you!

With love from your friends at The James Fund.
